Chicken + Prunes? Trust Me on This One.

October 19, 2026

Hello Reader,

This Mediterranean-inspired combo of chicken, prunes, and potatoes simmers gently in the slow cooker as you attend to life’s business.

Buttery Yukon Gold potatoes and tender chicken are a savory contrast with sweet, melty prunes that add richness to the juices in the slow cooker.

With very little effort, you are rewarded on a weeknight with a cozy, all-in-one dinner that is full of nourishment.

Nutrition Highlights

  • Iron for energy
  • Protein for muscle building and recovery
  • Vitamin C for immunity and improved iron absorption
  • Fiber for gut health
  • Potassium for blood pressure regulation, muscle contraction, and nerve signaling

Bone Benefits

Of course, almost every one of these nutrients are bone-friendly, helping build and maintain strong, dense bones.

I’ll be the first to say that this slow cooker recipe is not Chicken Marbella, the iconic and decadent chicken-and-prunes dish from The Silver Palate Cookbook. Nor is it trying to be.

But, you'll enjoy the flavors and the ease of prep, and it’s good enough to serve at a dinner party. It’s also make-ahead friendly. Check out the full blog post for information on meal prep.

Chicken Dinners Are Big Winners

You'll find several chicken dinner recipes on Food Hall.

Shredded Chicken with Taco Seasoning

Parmesan Garlic Chicken Thighs

Juicy thighs with a yummy, cheesy breadcrumb coating are out of the oven in less than 30 minutes!

We eat more chicken than any other animal protein in the U.S., about 115 pounds per person each year. This may be tied to the fact that the United States has the largest broiler industry in the world.

The positives: chicken is an affordable, high-quality source of protein with a relatively low environmental cost. Beef, for example, generates eight to ten times more carbon emissions.

However, I should mention conditions on many chicken farms are cruel for the birds. Because of this and other difficulties with poultry farming, some farmers are transforming their poultry operations into mushroom farms!

More about mushrooms another day!

If you enjoy meals and snacks that support bone health, take a look at my bone-friendly recipes—you’ll find both chicken and mushroom dishes there.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kind and healthy wishes,
